NOTE: The following
Objectives and Goals were adopted at the Fall Special Meeting
in
Calgary, Alberta on October 2, 1977 by the General Membership
present
and
became effective immediately.
Please bear in mind, an "objective" is
that within reach and a "goal" is a proposed attainment toward which
we direct our endeavour.
- To
foster, stimulate and promote the sport of skiing and
activities related to the sport in a safe and sensible
manner.
- To
further and protect the legitimate interests of ski areas
and tramway operators in Western Canada.
- To
promote and upgrade the standards of safety and operation of
ski areas and other commercial passenger aerial tramways in
Western Canada.
- To
furnish advice with respect to safe operation and
improvement of conditions in ski areas.
- To
introduce, develop and present any and all kinds of
training, educational and instructional programs, courses
and lectures for safe ski area operation.
- To
assist Members in basic operational problems.
- To
represent ski area operators and enter into affiliation, or
reciprocal arrangements with others in the ski fraternity
having objects in all or in part similar to those of the
Association in Canada, the United States or elsewhere.
- To
promote and participate actively in the Canadian Ski Area
Operators' Association for the benefit of all Members.
- To
support actively the development and participate in the Ski
Council set up in the Western Provinces of Canada, and to
support representation to the Canadian Ski Council, working
to gain full value from the Councils for the benefit of all
Members.
- For the
benefit of the Membership, and to promote the objects of the
Association, continue to arrange for and contract with group
insurance, personal or real, and to administer such programs
through the CWSAA office.
- For the
benefit of Members and to promote the objects of the
Association, arrange for and contract for any periodicals
and/or publications for the benefit of the Association and
to print, publish, sell and otherwise deal in periodicals,
magazines and publications of all kinds relating to ski area
operation generally.
- To
assist in the design, development and operation of
province-wide Snow Reporting Systems, covering all news
media and all Member areas in Western Canada, and further to
develop and operate a program to certify operators using the
system and to police their reports.
- To
maintain strong Technical and Labour Committees to deal with
the appropriate government agencies (federal and provincial)
regarding labour relations, lift regulations, liquor laws,
manpower, assessments, etc.
- To
maintain strong Public Relations Committee to deal with the
various government agencies, the news media, and the skiing
public.
- To
assist in the design, development and initiation of viable
consumer ski shows in designated major cities and other
markets to be determined.
- To
promote skier safety in relation to the sport in general and
in the use of lifts to the consumer.
- Where
assistance is not available, organize and fund programs to
promote skiing in Western Canada either through already
established groups or councils, or on own.
- To
promote membership in Canada West Ski Areas Association to
strengthen the Association.
- To
promote Associate Membership by support of these Members.
- Provide
the vehicle for Associate Members to hold an Annual Trade
Show.

Undertake necessary research studies for the benefit of all
Members as required.
The Canada West Ski Areas
Association includes the Provinces of British Columbia and Yukon,
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. |
